    1. Hi Ronelle, I really appreciate your feedback! I am super excited about you signing up for the persuasive writing course. Teaching persuasive writing to my students might seem a bit challenging, but here are some cool approaches I am thinking of using:

      1. Real-World Examples: We will kick off by looking at persuasive pieces in newspapers, magazines, or online articles. We will talk about how writers use language, evidence, and emotions to convince readers. We will also dig into the structure of persuasive writing in real-life situations.

      2. Interactive Activities: I am planning to organize debates or class discussions on interesting topics. This way, our students can really get into persuasive communication, share their opinions, and practice the art of persuasion in a fun and lively setting.

      3. Role-Playing: Imagine students stepping into the shoes of persuasive writers! We will do role-playing exercises where they have to persuade others. It is a cool way for them to see how persuasive language works in real-life situations.

      4. Creative Writing Prompts: I will also throw in some creative writing prompts that bring out the persuasive side. Maybe they can write a persuasive letter to a made-up character or create an ad for something imaginary. It will be a mix of creativity and learning about persuasive techniques.

There are so many other ways I am thinking of approaching this. These are just a few ideas to get started. I cannot wait to dive into this together!

  2. Most ingenious Andrea, a most convincing, compelling, and thought-provoking persuasive attempt indeed. I was on the verge of checking to make sure I was reading a blog until my eye fell upon the paragraph with the words, “Did this piece inspire you”. :)
I must say, I most definitely enjoyed reading this piece, I appreciated the demonstration showcasing the use of the persuasive writing in a real way.
In my opinion, I do believe that the writing style will be most beneficial to my students or all students might I add. Simple because of what the writing style guides students to do, in an attempt to persuade someone so much thought has to go into composing a compelling argument. The composition will need to integrate emotional appeal, authoritative evidence, exaggeration and so much more to sway the reader’s opinion. Carefully analyzing, evaluating, and synthesizing all this information frequently, fosters the student’s critical thinking skills. I also believe that the process of students honing their persuasive writing ability will indirectly elevate their communication proficiency as they master organizing and presenting their arguments more compellingly. In conclusion, I think the writing style could be vital to enhancing the student's overall literacy abilities, fostering the tenacity, and wit to “Transform their Words into Weapons of Influence” as you rightly said. :)

    1. My blogging brother Emilio! I genuinely appreciate your thoughtful response. Knowing that you were on the verge of mistaking for an actual ad as opposed to a blog post is quite a compliment, and I am glad the piece resonated with you.
Your recognition of the depth of persuasive writing is spot on. It is heartening to hear that you see the potential for students to not only enhance their critical thinking skills, but also indirectly improve their overall communication proficiency. I share your belief that honing persuasive writing abilities can indeed be a vital tool for students to transform their words into influential instruments.

If you have any specific aspects you would like to delve deeper into or if there are more thoughts you'd like to share, I am here to continue the conversation. 😊

  3. Greetings Andrea,
Ah, persuasive writing -a dance of words designed to sway minds and heart. Quite a compelling piece that grabs the attention of readers. You build a solid case, by weaving a seamless tapestry of logics, highlighted by your course. As a reader Andrea I am compelled to join, as an artist your appeal resonated with me.

I agree with your statement that students can relate to this type of writing. Since they attempt to persuade us every day to agree with them. They appeal to our emotions like an artist wielding a brush and painting vivid pictures. This here is a teachable moment that we can use to our advantage. I am also exhilarated to see you sharing with our colleague how you will go about teaching persuasive writing. Hats off to you since these are practical and reasonable ways to getting your students in becoming excellent persuasive writers.
