🌸LIT102 Blog #7- Voices Unleashed: The Author's Chair Chronicles🪄

In the cozy confines of our LIT102 classroom, a "magical"🪄 event just unfolded – The Author's Chair. Though shy, my classmates and I sat in anticipation, as we awaited that brave "Bobby" to share a piece of their final narrative.

Amidst the hushed whispers of anticipation, one brave soul took the stage. In the spotlight of The Author's Chair, a captivating story unfurled, weaving a spellbinding narrative that held the room captive. Peers leaned in, hanging on every word, as the author shared their creation with unwavering confidence.

The air buzzed with creativity and camaraderie. The Author's Chair became a sanctuary where voices found resonance, and dreams found expression. In those fleeting moments, courage met creativity, transforming a simple classroom into a vibrant hub of literary exploration.

As applause filled the room, a sense of accomplishment radiated from the beaming faces of the writers. The Author's Chair had worked its magic 🪄, empowering my classmates to share their stories and inspiring others to do the same.

In this brief yet profound encounter, The Author's Chair became more than just a seat; it became a symbol of creative triumph, reminding us all that within the world of imagination, there are no limits – only endless possibilities waiting to be explored.

I particularly loved😍this strategy that Mrs. Lazarus used. It really fostered a sense of community within our class, encouraging us to appreciate each other's unique voices and narratives. The implementation of this strategy not only showcased our literary talents but also nurtured our confidence and public speaking skills. Perched upon the chair, I experienced a profound sense of purpose, feeling akin to royalty as I shared my thoughts while my classmates attentively listened to my piece. I suggest more strategies like this be used in our class to not only improve our writing abilities but also to boost our confidence as teachers.

I eagerly anticipate employing this strategy upon my return to the classroom. it promises to greatly enrich students' writing journey, fostering confidence and skill in their writing abilities while nurturing a sense of camaraderie among their peers.

Have you ever used this strategy in your classroom? How was this experience for both you and your students? Leave your comment below.

Until next time... toodles! ❤️

  1. Andrea,
The Author's Chair is a valuable strategy that promotes a sense of community, encourages unique voices, and enhances both writing skills and public speaking abilities. It provides students with a platform to share their work and receive support from their peers. Implementing similar strategies in the classroom can have a positive impact on students' writing journey, fostering confidence and camaraderie. Teachers and students who have utilized this approach may provide valuable insights into their experiences and outcomes.
I have used it a handful of times with my learners, but saying they look forward to it is an understatement. The author gets to use my teachers chair which is decorated for the special occasion and wears a "writer's" hat. The rest of the class sits on foam mats, where I also join them and listen attentively. It's a wonderful, engaging experience for all.

    Great post! 🪄📚👏

Your thoughtful approach, decorating your chair and incorporating the writer's hat, undoubtedly makes the experience eagerly anticipated by the children, particularly in your classroom. Will definitely be utilizing this strategy when I return to the classroom!

  2. Hi Andrea,
The author's chair is indeed a strategy that encourages students to share their writing with the class. It is the final step in the writing process and is an excellent way for students to gain confidence in their writing.

Andrea recognized from your post that you were genuinely invested in the strategy. I am also delighted that you will apply it in your classroom. I have used the author's chair on several occasions. At the end of a student's reading, please encourage them to applaud their peer. When calling a student up, I refer to them as author Andrea or author Ronelle.

Andrea, since you will be implementing this strategy, here are some simple steps to assist you in your classroom.

    1. Modelling is critical, depending on your grade. Since you are a kindergarten teacher, modelling is critical at that level.

    2. Choose a special chair, an oversized one, and decorate and label it.

    3. Students are called up to read their piece or another genre. Refer to them as author example Charles.

    4. Display/reading of text. Instruct the author to read the text while their classmates listen.

    5. allow peers the opportunity to respond to what was read aloud.

    6. Encourage the author to respond to the comments received. In my class of third graders, many students were eager to respond at the end of an author's story.

    1. Hello my blogging sister Cordelia! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the author's chair strategy. It' is evident that you value this method as a powerful tool to promote student engagement and confidence in writing. I appreciate the practical tips you have provided for implementing the strategy in the classroom, particularly the emphasis on modeling and creating a special chair.

Your approach of encouraging students to applaud their peers and addressing them as "author Andrea" or "author Ronelle" adds a personal touch to the process. It is clear that fostering a positive and supportive environment during the author's chair can greatly enhance the experience for students.

I will certainly keep these valuable steps in mind as I incorporate the author's chair strategy in my kindergarten classroom.
